Can be related to Modesty.
"If simplicity is a virtue, then living simple lives and cherishing simple pleasures are all that is required for our lives to have value.
We need not feel guilty when we suspect we should be doing more for God's kingdom, for when he needs us he will call us, and until then
we can be content to husband our strength, put down roots and enjoy the good things that have been given us."
(Smith, 20)
This statement hit me hard! So often I feel that I am not doing all that I can. I wish I could be fighting for freedom in Iraq, or serving the public at home
in some capacity. But it's being taken care of. I've had my time, and if my services are needed again I'll know it. For now I should focus on building my family
with the same virtues that have been passed on to me, and enjoying the time.
"Strength is not created by adversity; it is merely awakened by it." "... But this protection does not diminish the possibility that the most
heroic deeds may be accomplished, or at least attempted, by the very same simple folk that are thus sheltered."
(Smith, 19)
And remember that simplicity is not a sign of weakness. Your strength is inside, and can be awakened when needed!
One of the core Virtues
"When we can give out of our abundance, freely and without resentment, and when we can receive
gifts from others with neither guilt nor a sense of entitlement, then we can be free of all our possessions,
and they will have no hold over us." (Smith, 25)
gen'er-ous : free in giving; not mean or small; plentiful. Universal Webster Dictionary,
Completely revised edition 1992
I love when I can share my good fortune with others. How sad it would be to be the only person around with any reason to
celebrate.
"It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God"
Matthew 19:24, the Bible
The natural family, creation of God, is the fundamental human community, based on the life-long marriage between a man and a woman, in which new individuals are conceived, born and raised.
